690971 2008-07-22 00:42:00 I think thats only for IDE not SATA Speedy Gonzales (78)
690972 2008-07-22 01:25:00 If you are only wanting to transfer data, This here may do what you want (www.ascent.co.nz) - I got a couple, use them all the time on standard 3.5" SATA drives, never tried on a Laptop drive.

Edited; Should work Ok, have a look at This page here (images.google.co.nz %26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN) - basically the same device, but the NZ one listed has the SATA connection on the top instead of in the end like the pictures.

The other option is if your Motherboard on the PC has SATA connectors simply plug in the laptop Drive, turn on the PC and it wiil show as a second drive then copy across.

Yeah I use one like that all the time, they work fine with all IDE and SATA laptop and desktop hard drives.

Edit - And plugging it straight into a desktop with SATA ports on the mobo will work fine too. :D

Well I didnt use anything, the last time I ripped a SATA out of a laptop. I just removed it and connected it to this desktop.

.

I've had 6 of the OCNZ ones. All 6 crapped out, 2 taking the drive with it.
The 2.5" doesn't work too well either.

I then got the same thing but by Vantec and its been great ever since, with 3.5 and 2.5.

The link to Ascent was an example only, I don't buy from then, I get the ones I use directly from suppliers.

Only had one of the ones as ascent show, and that failed because it got dropped and the power supply went belly up.

Connecting directly to a Motherboards sata ports is the easiest way, and the way I do it most of the time.
