690960 2008-07-22 00:27:00 Is the above a good buy at $199.00?

Presume it has it's own power supply and is backward compatible to USB 1.0?.

Have 6 pc hard drives to backup and then scrap the pcs' to Molten Metal.

Thanks for any help.

690961 2008-07-22 02:45:00 Well its OK, WDs have a 3yr warranty.

I'd still buy a Seagate.

690963 2008-07-26 04:48:00 pctech, DSE have the Seagate 500gb at $179.00, but notice it has a power source as opposed to Western usb own power source.

Seagate have a 5 year warranty though.

Ps. Does this mean the Western is a glorified Thumb drive?

Thumb drives use Flash Memory, External HDD's have actual Hard Drives in them.

If it hasn't got its own power then it must be a 2.5" drive instead. Makes no difference, 2.5" or 3.5" - I'd still use Seagate.

There is a lot more to digest now-a-days IT wise and it's all hands-on, no leaving it to the Main Frame Computer Departments.
