2008-07-21 06:51:00 | Does it have the recovery partition or the option to make the recovery cd's? No recovery disks, you'll have to buy XP if you want to use it. Otherwise install Linux on it

2008-07-21 06:51:00 | What do you mean by reformat? Do you mean you want to wipe the drive and then re install windows? If so then you will need a windows Vista disk or a recovery CD. If you have a recovery CD you don't need to format first just put it in and let it do its thing | gary67 (56) | |
2008-07-21 06:53:00 | 13 minutes later you are bumping your post? Did your 2nd hand computer come with any recovery CDs or original OS CDs? Do you have a COA (Certificate of Authenticity) sticker on the computer?

2008-07-21 07:00:00 | No. They are designed for your system and hardware. Do you actually even have a COA for it? If not, it is a mute point. You will need to buy yourself XP or Vista to use on it. | Jen (38) | |

2008-07-21 07:04:00 | 2 possibilities dont know if they will work for you or not 1 To create the recovery disc set, Click Start , All Programs , PC Help & Tools (or similar), open the HP or Compaq Recovery CD-DVD Creation software, and follow the on-screen directions. 2 Press the power on button and immediately after the POST beep start pressing the F10 button . This should bring you to the recovery partition and allow you to restore the computer to factory settings (clean install windows) . You should have a choice of backing up and reinstalling your data or just the clean install recovery.
