690808 2008-07-21 04:47:00 hi everyone,

just got my cousin a new box with some ****ty spare parts i had. Unfortunately the gigabyte motherboard i got only has 1 IDE channel. Thats okay, CDROM and first IDE drive is okay.

But i have another IDE drive which i've plugged into a fast track tx2000 raid card. I was wondering how would i show the drive in my computer? Obviously i am using windows vista. I've managed to install the drivers. Windows also updated it with the latest one in its updates repository (yes i know the repo thing is from linux, cant find another word for it :)).

So yeah, Windows Vista Home Premium+Fasttrack tx2000 raid card (uses promise chipset) = no drive in my computer.

The drive is currently also set to stripe on the raid interface (sorry dont know what it means either).

any help would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

690809 2008-07-21 04:49:00 Does it appear in Disk Management?

Type Computer Management into the search if your not sure where it is, then open the Disk Management section.

Dont know where it is in Vista, i dont use it

690811 2008-07-21 07:21:00 fastest way i know to get to disk management is:
Win+R then type in "mmc" and then click on file and then choose add/remove snap in and then from the list choose disk management.

anyway, after doing that; checking in there, it does not show up the drive at all. However when booting the computer it says no array defined, press control+f to go into setup to use the hdd. it shows the harddrive there as CH1M Seagate 200gb drive.

Just in windows it does not show.

sigh :( any other suggestions please :)

cheers

690812 2008-07-21 21:45:00 The RAID card is 100% definitely being seen in the device manager, and the drivers are installed for it? Perhaps try getting some drivers from the manufacturer's website, rather than from M$. wratterus (105)
690813 2008-07-21 22:06:00 If the drive is currently set to striped, it won't show up. You may need to change the array to JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks).

I had a quick look at the manual and it doesn't mention anything about just attaching drives as non-RAID storage.
