| 435062 | 2006-03-02 13:41:00 | But whats the deal with parallel imported? Theres no warranty at all huh? Warranty Policy Parallel Imported Ltd will fulfil all of our obligations under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 Parallel Importing and Rights to Redress The Ministry of Consumer Affairs today reassured consumers that they continue to have rights of redress in respect to parallel imported goods - but there are some important things to know about claiming those rights. "If something goes wrong with the goods, by law remedies are available from the retailer, importer, or the New Zealand based manufacturer if they were made in New Zealand," says the Ministry's General Manager, Keith Manch. "But people should be aware that if they buy something like a Sanyo product imported by a parallel importer and not the licensed dealer, then their claim would be against either the retailer or the parallel importer, not Sanyo NZ. Under the Consumer Guarantees Act, all New Zealand based importers (this includes parallel importers) and manufacturers must make sure that the goods they manufacture here, or import into New Zealand: * are of acceptable quality * comply with their description * comply with any express guarantee given by the manufacturer or importer about their performance and the availability of spare parts or replacement goods * have repair facilities and spare parts reasonably available for a reasonable time (though importers and manufacturers can contract out of this and so it pays to ask when you buy). In addition, the Consumer Guarantees Act requires retailers to also give a number of guarantees about goods bought for normal household or personal use. For example, they must be of acceptable quality and fit for their particular purpose. "Consumers should continue to shop smartly" says Mr Manch. "Parallel importing may be undertaken by anyone, from major national chains to fly-by-nighters. This means people should shop around to compare prices and deals, and choose businesses that have an established reputation for quality and after-sales service." "If a problem develops with goods you have bought and you have not misused them, start by going back to the store you bought them from. You may have the right to a refund or replacement depending on how serious the fault is," says Mr Manch. "If the store has changed hands or is no longer trading, the new owner or receiver should be able to give you the name of the importer or manufacturer." www.consumeraffairs.govt.nz |

There is bound to be other stores clearing them. For the sake of $49 I wouldn't bother with the parrallel imported one. In saying that apple have international warrantys on ipods |
