435046 2006-03-02 23:12:00 Good show, interesting ideas and interesting to see th epeople with their dreams.

Also facinating was the last group with the golf club carrier who turned DOWN the offer of 100,000 (I think)
£125,000 if I recall correctly. It would have made the dragon pretty much an equal partner with them, but I think it would have been worth it - especially with the endorsements he could have got (From people that would probably use a golf cart, but that is beside the point  )

435047 2006-03-02 23:37:00 Intewrersting too that the Drags scoffed at Racel Lowe's board game Destination London (http://www.rtlgames.co.uk/). Now a bestseller, but that's got to happen I guess.

I don't really understand how it all works. The candidates are obviously vetted to get on the show so do the total non-starters like the inventor of the StableTable device get there just for our entertainment?

I can't believe that the Drags know nothig more of the product than the few minutes they have with the speil and maybe five more with discussion. Are the candidates' claims all checked beforehand? Investing that sort of money with a brief meeting and no documentation?

All seems bit of a puzzle.

435048 2006-03-03 01:49:00 Investing that sort of money with a brief meeting and no documentation? The investors have a combines worth of 130 billion I think I heard last night.

They're pretty much throwing around pocket change.

435049 2006-03-03 04:31:00 OK could be that. A game, like they keep saying.

I like the show though. Think it appeals to the wheeler-dealer in us.

Well spotted Mark and thanks for the link. I was surprised they didn't invest in her game and good on her for 'making it'. On her website she exaplins how her financial figures were taken off her before she walked up the stairs, so that explains what happened in the den....

435051 2006-03-03 05:22:00 Thanks. I got that from www.theregister.co.uk

Great site. News, views, gossip and gags about IT. :D

...and oddities like board games. I suppose because it's all British.

435053 2006-03-03 21:23:00 Here is some behind the scenes info from the board game woman linked above.
www.rtlgames.co.uk

When I agreed to take part in Dragon's Den I had no idea that what I was essentially going into was a business version of pop idol. I was interrogated at length about figures and sales forecasting _ but had been stripped of my business plan moments before walking up those steps. 'You can't take that in with you' said the producer 'it doesn't look good on camera'.

From that moment I knew I was doomed as figures have never been my forte - I cope quite nicely with my calculator but have never needed to know an entire spreadsheet of numbers from memory.

The Dragon's who slated me said that I didn't know my market and questioned how I would compete with Monopoly. Well, my game was Hamleys number 1 game of Christmas 2004'...Monopoly was at number 3!

Although Dragon's Den was a traumatic experience for me, it gave me the incentive to step-up my mission to be successful and prove those Dragon's wrong - and that's exactly what I did!

435054 2006-03-04 06:01:00 Another thing about the Drags Den (excuse me a moment) is what's with all the supposed piles of cash on tables. Is that naff or what. Like what a nightmare for the show's producers to deal with swags of cash on the set and then what happens when the Drags decide to invest?

"Hey that's terrific. Here's 150 thousand quid. You gotta sack?"
