690907 2008-07-21 10:43:00 I have a hard drive with some kind of linux on it (not sure what) which I want to read (but can't) From the errors I get, it seems to be using ext2 filesystem.

If I try to boot from the drive, LILO loads and then I get this menu:
www.imagef1.net.nz

None of the options work. If I try to load the first one I get this:
www.imagef1.net.nz

looking at the drive in ubuntu live, I see this:
www.imagef1.net.nz

Is there any way to fix this? or is the filesystem completely wrecked?
Oh and does anyone know what distro this is from looking at the splashscreen?

690908 2008-07-21 10:56:00 It looks like Mandriva (Mandrake) from around 2004 in time. You can see the reference to Red Hat nash version 3.5.18-mdk.

Can you mount hda1 from the Ubuntu disk and run any commands like fdisk -l on it?

690909 2008-07-21 11:35:00 I can't mount it. I just get an error.

Mount: wrong fs type (I specified ext2), bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda1, missing codepage or other error

690910 2008-07-22 10:00:00 You will probably get the same result but I wonder if it would be worth trying to access it from (say) a Knoppix boot disk? johnd (85)
690911 2008-07-22 10:45:00 fdisk -l doesn't require mounting the disk first. What is the output for this command? Note that you run it on the drive itself (e.g. /dev/hda), not on the partition. Erayd (23)
690912 2008-07-22 12:19:00 I gave up, and since I don't actually care for what's on the drive I just tried reformatting it - with a LOT of errors, then when I rebooted the PC told me that SMART detected an imminent failure - so out it goes :badpc: Agent_24 (57)
