| 436172 | 2006-03-06 23:53:00 | Hi I have a uncle being buried next wednesday. We have a test every wednesday on our paper which is a 10 minute 10 question multi choice test at university. I wont meantion the name of the place. We'll just call him person A and Place B I went to ask the head coordinator for this paper person A.I explained to A that my uncle is being buried next wednesday and that I understand that the tests being held are compulsory but if its possible to let me take the test at a different time?I was planning to catch a bus from B to my city on tuesday . The person A said where is he buried?I said at *Name of place* then he said so you "planning to flunk the test?"I said yes well no i was hoping to take the test at a different date.Person A said that he won't write up a new test just for me.He says that I don't need to take the test all the time you only need to take 80% of all the tests so you can miss this 1 but we won't reschedule just for you .I said ok but i was planning to take the test on a tuesday morning and leave tuesday afternoon..He said its not worth it and smiled at me.I said ok and left the room. After 15 minutes the lecturer not him told his that our test will be 10 minutes long,10 question,10 multi choice question. I was thinking surely that he can spend 10 minutes for me to take the test? Do you guys think he understood my situation?I'm not really sure.My uncle means alot to me and its just not right just to not go for the burial but it will also affect my internal mark. What would you do?Find another person to talk to? |

It would take more than 10 minutes to compose alternative test. He would have to consider that you could let others know what was in the test. Didn't the examiner tell you that your internal mark required you to do 80% of the tests. Presumably worst results dropped. |

| 436176 | 2006-03-07 00:16:00 | Defining the 80% I was thinking Do they take your 80% best mark or do they expect you to be there 80% of the time therefore each marks are counted for? The guideline just said Weekly test 55% week 2-13.So i assumed you have to be there 80% of the time not like they take 80% of your best mark Is this interpretation correct? |

| 436177 | 2006-03-07 00:41:00 | What they could do is week 2-13 and assume this test is week 5. You have 12 tests normally. This time you can only do 11. So your overall score should be based on these 11. This should work. | KiwiTT_NZ (233) | ||

This should work. That's what I thought was supposed to happen, I thought you were supposed to get a mark generated from the average of your other tests. I guess policy varies between educational institutes though. -Qyiet |

| 436181 | 2006-03-07 02:40:00 | As far as i am aware they are allowed to redo the test or have you do test early, as long as you have in writting from official type of person reasons stating what has happened and what you want to occur. They cannot flunk you for this, it is their fault if you get a fail mark when you have already notified them, and if it does get a fail mark, you can go complain to higher people (been there done that - not for funeral tho). Best of luck and Condolences. beetle |
