435128 2006-03-02 23:05:00 Clearly a lot of people have been trying to buy tickets to the Rolling Stones gigs this morning.

A number of my team mates all tried to get in to the Ticketek site and some of us even got through to the Buy Tickets page. However we all got the same message saying that we had selected more than 8 tickets (the maximum) - it wasn't possible to select more that 8 as it was a drop down box.

We were all signed into ticketek.co.nz under our own Member IDs and none of us had already bought tickets.

Does the ticketek site perhaps identify people by IP address rather than just Member ID ? Since we are all using the same work internet connection we would all have a common IP address.

Any ideas ?

435129 2006-03-03 00:22:00 Ticketek arn't selling them yet.

Visa did a deal with the Stones PR people to offer 75% of the tickets to Visa card holders early.

You have to have a visa, and you order them from http://www.visaentertainment.co.nz/

Hope you don't have a mastercard.

435130 2006-03-03 01:08:00 Sorry, I didn't make it clear that I went in via the visaententertainment.co.nz link. That simply routes you through to Ticketek who are selling tickets.

All I'd really like to know is whether Ticketek are limiting access to one user per IP address as this would explain the strange error message we were getting about exceeding the maximum number of 8 tickets. My thought is that the first person to get in and buy 8 tickets blew the limit for all other users sharing that IP address through their corporate web access channel.

Is this how it works

435132 2006-03-03 02:10:00 ... Does the ticketek site perhaps identify people by IP address rather than just Member ID ? Since we are all using the same work internet connection we would all have a common IP address. It's quite likely. I'd be surprised if those who resell tickets on trademe haven't tried using multiple memberships to beat any "fairness" limitations.. Graham L (2)
