691736 2008-07-24 20:55:00 I have been with Ihug since they began business, now Vodafone.
Minimal problems in that time.

Now Vodafone have taken over still no problems

Me too. I haven't had any dramas.

There was the occasional problem with speed, but that has been sorted for quite a while now. I don't think I can remember the last time I had to call their helpdesk so can't comment on their service.

691738 2008-07-25 01:36:00 As long as you go to support for support and not a accounts Rep for support you should be sweet, as with any ISP when theres faults there busy and you have to wait, during a fault in Manukau and surrounding suburbs i noticed 90min wait, that was when there was bad weather, exchange got flooded.

Most wait times are 20mins or less, best time to call 10pm-6am, short wait times.

plus the vodafone manager are big focused on customer service during recruitment, i used to work for vodafone nz as a customer service manager before it merged ihug while it was operated as a individual business.

691739 2008-07-25 02:19:00 I got VF broadband, experience so far limited to about a month, but it's great. Can't really comment on CS yet since I haven't had an opportunity to use it (and hopefully never will!) but have heard it is pretty bad. Not sure if it's going through or not, but also heard they may start to charge extra for CS. Deathwish (143)
691740 2008-07-25 02:33:00 Recently I got a cold call from Vodaphone trying to sell me their product. It sounded really good. The caller claimed, amongst other things, that their theoretical download max is 24 Mgps and their average download speed is 12 Mgps. Since I get somewhere between 2.9 and 3.1 just now it sounds marvellous.

Peculiarly, later the same day I got a call from Xtra (present ISP) to say that if I signed on for a further year they would give me a free router. When I mentioned the Vodaphone offer the caller said that Vodaphone could not manage 12 Mgps as the copper wire can only stand about 7 Mgps.

Who is correct please ?

691741 2008-07-25 02:52:00 ok i was and kinda am in the same boat, see the thread 'my exchange issue'

basics are your copper can handle around 27Mbps or 27,000kbps on a Full Annex M ADSL2+ enabled port via supported DSLAM .

However depending on your distance and cable quality you may not reach the max, thing is if your not moving house (distance from the exchange) and no ISP/telco is replacing your copper cable which Telecom manage for NZ, then it wont matter what ISP you with really as your line speed would remain relatively the same .

My issue is Ihug say im on one exchange, Telecom/Xtra say another exchange, i live on the border line between the two .

Get the ISP's to tell you your cable length from the exchange to your premises, will range anywhere up to 4k's, if its 4 . 1km's or greater you could see if theres another exchange that you move onto, may mean you will need change your phone number, industry cost about $50 .

The closer you are to the exchange the better, the other factor that can count is attenuation and line noise .

691742 2008-07-25 02:53:00 Hi there.
I have been with vodafone or the old Ihug since before it became Ihug and found it good. Some times it is a bit hard to get the help desk.
