Has anyone played both of these games?

After reading techdirt.com I quite like the look of it.

Been wanting to get Civ4, but this game looks nice.

Anyone here that can talk about the differences between the two?

437859 2006-03-13 20:54:00 I haven't played Galatic Civ II, but I was disapointed with Civ IV - the gameplay didn't live up to the standards they set with Alpha Centauri. Greven (91)

Sure is. They all carry Sid's name

437862 2006-03-13 21:16:00 Ah right. I think I faintly remember one of my friends mentioning Alpha Centauri. What's it like? mejobloggs (264)

The graphics are very dated now, but the game itself is very addictive. There are so many completely different things you can do - you can micro manage every little bit, or you can set it to automatic. It is a lot more in depth than civ IV.

I used to play it a lot, but (like most tbs games) it takes so long to play a game that I don't have time for a propper game much these days.

437864 2006-03-13 21:51:00 Yeah, I too have very little time now... Which is the reason why I wanted a tbs game. I find that a turn based game is easier to just play a little bit each day than an rts. mejobloggs (264)
437865 2006-03-13 22:46:00 Alpha Centari stole parts of my life. I rate it as high as Civ I. I loved the fact environmentalism played such a huge part (I either went full treehugger or full planet raper.. it was great either way)

I wish I had enough time to play either of GalCiv or Civ4 :(
