437564 2006-03-12 06:57:00 1. Be unbundled.
2. At least be unravelled.
3. Be hung around someone's neck.
4. Be set free into the surrounding countryside.

ah this was meant to be a poll ... but who cares about polls anyway :D

437568 2006-03-12 09:03:00 Yes, but with tough regulations.

But better woudl be to go for some kind of split of Telecom into wholesale and retail divisions. This way any telcos could tap in to the network on an equal basis.

Also we would then perhaps get better mobile phone rates. We are being ripped off on this big time. It costs 79 cents to call a mobile from a landline on a normal plan. This is two or three times what it costs elsewhere in the world.

Teresa Gatting is the biggest liar there is. She kept saying we are getting up there, whereas the program clearly showed that other countries are way ahead of us and getting better by the month !

The best thing we can all do is write letters to the papers and our MPs (it is free) and the Helen Clark and David Cunnliffe.

437569 2006-03-12 09:14:00 i think its simply a case of telecoms network couldn't cope with the traffic if it gets unbundled, ISP's will outsell what telecom can provide. tweak'e (69)
437570 2006-03-12 22:20:00 Apologies for butting in but I'm curious as to the expectations of those who want the local loop unbundled. This seemed like the appropriate thread to ask my questions :

1) What does local loop unbundling mean to you?
2) What practical / physical changes would you expect from unbundling?
3) What benefits / issues would you expect from unbundling?
4) How would you propose this unbundling occur?
5) Who would own the 'local loop' and what would be in it for them?

Andrew

My opinion? I don't really have one but I think the advantages would have to seriously outweigh the advantages before we start tinkering. Look at the national electricity industry and the Auckland water utilities for examples of corporate break-ups gone bad.
