437705 2006-03-13 06:00:00 Paul, I was informed by Telecom that the roll over date is always the 3rd (number) irrespective of the date - which is why she explained to me that if it falls on a weekend etc etc etc.
So, it appears that Telecom's computers only work a 5 day week.:D Sounds fair enough to me, but they obviously need to put one or two on glide time to cover this problem.

Based on that extraordinary explanation, I'd definitely take the matter up.

Cheers

437706 2006-03-13 06:22:00 They bill you for calls automatically over the weekend & they allow you to top up your credit during the weekend, so why can't they reset the free minutes during the weekend? Greven (91)
437707 2006-03-15 02:56:00 So now we know....the word from the corporate horses mouth.

"Unfortunately our systems are not run a specific date and time with regards to accounts. For the last 3 months the roll over time for your free minutes have rolled over on the 6th of each month, in February they rolled over on the 7th as the 6th was a public holiday. Our billing systems are not active on public holidays or weekends.
Telecom is aware of the situation with regards to free minute roll over dates and are implementing step by step changes to this."

Our billing systems are not active on public holidys. Wow computers that only work M to F 9 to 5 !!

437708 2006-03-15 03:15:00 Our billing systems are not active on public holidays or weekends.

If their billing system truely isn't active on weekends, then they shouldn't be able to bill weekend traffic. They do bill weekend calls & txts, so their billing system is obviously active on weekends & public holidays

437709 2006-03-15 20:43:00 In answer to the question "Do vodafone do this?"
The answer is no.

I have been on contract with vodafone for tenish years, and NEVER have i met something even remotely as ridiculous as this. :groan:

When my 300 off peak minutes/month expire, a new batch start. That's what 300 minutes a month means after all.

It seems utterly bizarre that last months minutes can expire on a certain date, but a the new months cannot be started  Either the machine is up, or it isn't, but telecom seem to claim that the procedure-thingy that expires last months block of contracted minutes is running perfectly, but theprocedure-thingy that starts this months contracted minutes isn't?

437710 2006-03-15 21:30:00 You can only complain if you know that your payment for the next month had been received. After all Telecom or Vodafone would be silly to hand out free minutes before they got the payment. Maybe the bank's systems are also involved. PaulD (232)

If one is on a contract, one usually expects to get the service, and THEN get billed for it . One does not expect to pay for a service that doesn't quite work on the weekends .

If there's a problem with unpaid bills, vodafone send me a txt message to remind me long before there is any restriction of service .

Are telecom somehow justified to restrict service on the offchance that one might not pay the next bill?

My thoughs entirely Greven, so I asked Telecom this and there response...

I quote

"Telecom's statements are not printed over the weekends or public holidays simply because they can't be sent until a normal business day.
If they were to be printed over this time then customers would receive accounts late leaving little time for payment by the customers.

Hope this helps"

So it appears that it is the printers and not the billing system that does work overtime...reminds me of british rail wrong type of snow, leaves on tracks etc preventing trains from running !!

A computer can find out if it's a weekend or public holiday. A computer can put the next business day as the date of issue on the statements it produces. If that's beyond the skill of Telecom's computer "experts", perhaps they should hire some competent people.

It might even improve the functioning of their computer systems, by evening out the work load.

437714 2006-03-16 02:04:00 A similar thing occurs with my bank.
I know banks aren't open on weekends, public holidays etc but as stated above computers can still operate!
If I transfer some money from my main cheque/savings account into the credit card account on a weekend, the money disappears from the main account but doesn't show up in the credit card account until Tuesday!
Where is the money going in the mean time??
