692380 2008-07-26 09:30:00 My computer often auto-restarts even in the midst of switching on or after it boots and the desktop screen appears. This can happen up to 10 times before the computer is finally stable for usage. Also, sometimes when i switch on the power, the PC is running but there's no output on the monitor. Is this a problem with the motherboard?

692381 2008-07-26 09:37:00 Whats the specs of the system??

If its XP is SP3 installed? Whats the CPU? AMD or Intel?

Is the on/off button, on the case sticking when you press it?

692382 2008-07-26 09:59:00 Windows XP; Pentium D Intel CPU 2.8GHz 1GB RAM. Nothing wrong with the on/off button. Erm i think SP3 not installed yet. JA88 (14012)
692383 2008-07-26 10:08:00 Hmm ok once you get back into Windows, right mouse on my computer on the desktop / properties / advanced / startup and recovery / settings.

Untick automatically restart

Would you say its crashing when it restarts?? If it is crashing, clearing the above may bring up a blue screen, next time it happens. And show some numbers and maybe a file. Thats causing it

Or you could post a hijackthis log, its in my sig below. Install it run it then click on scan the system and save a log. Copy and paste the log here

692384 2008-07-26 10:09:00 Welcome to PF1 - try starting the PC in Safe mode, see if it reboots as you describe.

To start in safe mode, when you turn on the PC, keep taping the F8 Key, when the options appear using the arrow keys select Safe mode.

Let us know what happens.

Have a look on the Motherboard, sometimes if capacitors are leaking they will cause all sorts of problems, if they are they will either have a brownish gunk on them, or are bulging See This picture here (www.imagef1.net.nz) wainuitech (129)

692389 2008-08-01 18:48:00 i've already unchecked the "automatically restart windows" option in the advanced settings and the com doesn't auto restart that often now but it hangs now and then. there's no leak in the capacitors on the motherboard either so what gives? JA88 (14012)
