| 692214 | 2008-07-25 23:06:00 | Hi all :) Well I have finally decided to get myself a mid-range laptop. After a bit of searching I have narrowed it down to these two laptops and would like to hear your opinion on what one you would choose and why. The RAM will be upgraded from 2gigs regardless which one I choose. I am also interested in the differences between the two processors and would you really notice it general performance wise? Eg L2 cache and 45/65nm. | 692216 | 2008-07-26 01:11:00 | Personally I'd go for the Asus, but that's solely because of the build quality and the quality of the parts :) But try and get Vista Home Premium as Vista Business's WMP will not play DVDs :eek: |

| 692218 | 2008-07-26 01:20:00 | I though I'd heard something a while back about not being able to play DVDs because of it being a 'business' OS. That might've been from a beta version of Vista though - can't quite recall. | jwil1 (65) | ||
| 692219 | 2008-07-26 01:22:00 | Ah yeah, fair enough. I certainly haven't had any issues. in fact if you ignore the media center, its pretty much exactly the same to use as HP. | wratterus (105) | ||

I would choose the Pavilion for better/faster graphics and OS premium rather than BusinessIt will be used for general multi-purposes (bit of this, bit of that) with a bit of future proofing (wireless n support etc). I wanted the separate graphics as you can easily get Linux drivers and it doesn't hog any of the system RAM. The actual supplied Windows OS version doesn't bother me either way. Yes, the HP is higher spec'd but Asus are known for quality. Hence my dilemma. They are both around the same price. I had a play in a shop with the models both are nice, although I did like the Asus port layout better. No one has screamed the HP's are hopeless, so I guess that is a good sign. :p Thanks for all the comments so far. |
