439468 2006-03-20 20:02:00 Hey Everyone, I have been having this for a while now but it is getting worse, I could be shattered sort of thing before I go to bed, but as soon as I get in and try to go to sleep I all of a sudden perk up and am restless and what not and can't get to sleep.

Last night for example I was at Badminton and was getting very tired, anyway I got into bed at 9.30pm and read till 10.00pm then tried to get to sleep, I was still awake at 1.00am :(

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and knows how to stop it?

Thanks a very tired EOR :)

439469 2006-03-20 20:21:00 Quite often things like this can be psychological, or influenced by what you're eating/drinking. Are you drinking any coffee/Coke or any caffinated drinks in the evening? Large quantiities of tea? These could be playing a part.

How long has this been going on for - if it's been going on for more than a few weeks, I'd strongly recommend that you seek professional medical advice.

)You've got it easy (www.phespirit.info) mate! Last night I went to bed after midnight and woke at 3:30, unable to get back to sleep. Been up since. :waughh:

439472 2006-03-20 20:57:00 More often than not, something on your mind (even subconsciously) will give you sleeping problems. Is work (or school) not going well, something happening outside of this area you aren't hapy about, or some other issue you are dealing with (death in the family)... could be anything out of the norm.
The other thing is that you know you have a sleeping problem, maybe this is now starting to weigh on your mind as well when you go to bed ("will I sleep tonight, how much will I get, how long will I be awake for tonight, I didn't sleep much last nite, etc etc). Although reading will make you mentally tired, maybe you are reading the wrong type of material and you are trying to comprehend or see how this sub plot ties in with the other one.

I used to have problems sleeping at one time, the biggest thing I had to learn was to shut the mind down when your head hit the pillow. Think of nothing

439473 2006-03-20 21:58:00 I sometimes have this problem, tired but wired. Then, I do drink an awful lot of coffee.

When I can't sleep I do the 'counting sheep' thing but instead of sheep I keep repeating sleep...sleep...sleep. It sort of programs the mind about what you're supposed to be doing, but you have to be bloody-minded about it and keep going even if visions of other things pop into your head.

Works for me 90% of the time :)

FPS Gaming when I'm bone tired really screws me up. It gets the adrenaline pumping, but because I am exausted, it gives me the shakes real bad after about an hour. My hands usually keep shaking for 5 - 10 mins after I've finished playing.

439476 2006-03-20 23:58:00 For me, it was the time I managed to prevent our house being broken into last year. I haven't slept the same since. So now when the fridge, house, trees, outside makes loud noises while I'm trying to get to sleep, I keep thinking someone is trying to break in. I just can't get to sleep for a while bob_doe_nz (92)
439477 2006-03-21 00:48:00 I got that at the moment, go to bed at 10:30 and sleep just doesn't 'click' in. If I am not asleep by midnight, I use some valariun pills. Its a natural extract and knocks me out giving me a natural sleep instead of a drugged out sleeping pill sleep. More on it here ods.od.nih.gov netchicken (4843)
