439297 2006-03-20 02:59:00 I'm thinking of switching from Orcon to XNet but want to find out a bit more about them first.

Has anyone had any problems with them?
Do they give you a static IP?
Can they automatically bill a credit card each month?
Will they be able to cope with the demand from having the best value for money plans, or will the 2mb plans go significantly slower?
Is the latency acceptable for playing online games?

439298 2006-03-20 03:42:00 As far as the "IP and billing" questions go, did it cross your mind to e-mail or call them?

Might give you an idea what their customer service is like in the process.

No problems - have signed up two friends with them, and they've had no problems either.

Their helpdesk has limited hours, but I've never had a need to call them thus far. They're a good little outfit for the average user.

If you decide to go the Xnet road, PM one of the Xnet users here (me, DanielF, and one other, I think), for contact details and a billing number - if you cite one of us when you sign up, one of us gets a credit. )

439301 2006-03-20 10:59:00 I'll have to give it a lot more thought before I make up my mind. I'd have to do without a static IP since XNet charges so much to get one.

I've sent them an email & got 4 read reciepts, but no reply yet.

Don't be put off too much by their response time. I remember IHug when I first joined had really slow response times, which I put down to an unexpected number of new customers, and supply struggling to match demand (in terms of customer service). They soon matched the demand with investment, and they grew to become one of the biggest (and arguably) best ISPs around.

439303 2006-03-20 11:04:00 Gah I hate people that request read receipts.

Anyway I remembered something about these guys. Now IIRC they don't have national transit.

They peer, and buy international. So any traffic from you to a non-peering ISP (like Telstra/Xtra) will go Internationally.

I'm sure thats accurate info.

439304 2006-03-21 08:51:00 I recently signed up myself & have since signed up 3-4 others

Im loving it, REAL fast & for the same cost there soon switching me over to a plan that doubles my speed & cap.

The can charge your visa. I signed up my in laws & there speed is crap but Im conviced it's a line issue, nothing to do with x-net.

I reccomend them :)
