2008-07-28 05:03:00 | Go to control panel instead and run add hardware. If an audio entry appears, do it that way. Once it asks for the driver, point it to commonfiles

2008-07-29 00:38:00 | Speedy, A couple more questions if you don't mind. When it says "Open Device Manager and SEARCH for the Unknown PCI Device" I presume it should just be there as the usual yellow exclamation mark without any futher action by me.? Also would the problem with KB888111 be obvious to any tech and would be presumptuous for me to point out what I have learnt from you and other forums.? | Pato (2463) | |
2008-07-29 01:09:00 | Actually, I dont know where this scan for PCI devices is in device manager. Unless it means (the action menu), and scan for hardware changes? A tech should know what the prob is, and how to fix your prob. I could probably try it and fix it if you want (I'll use Crossloop (http://www.crossloop.com) ) It'll let me log into your system remotely (you'll have to download it as well)

2008-07-29 02:28:00 | Umm WHERE did you install the soundmax drivers from?? From the CD, or did you install a later version from the ASUS site, then try and install them? The cd version maybe older, which maybe why that message is appearing. If there's an update on the ASUS site, it may not have the same prob / issue

2008-07-29 02:30:00 | What do you mean by HD audio?. Well thats what 888111 is for, it fixes some issue with HD audio soundcards. And the P5B-E sound supports HD Audio (8 channels) doesnt it If the soundcard isnt HD audio, (like if its a 6 channel / 5:1 soundcard), then you probably dont need that 888111 file

That explains it. I will get a Sound Card put in and that should solve the problem and will probably be the cheapest way to go. Thanks for your offer to sort out my problem but you have done enough and I really appreciate it. At least I am learning something along the way. Cheers. |
