439490 2006-03-21 08:55:00 Try having a warm bath with some Lavender oil in it. and then have a warm glass of milk before going to bed.

Also some people listen to waterfall type sounds or even talkback radio can put you to sleep.

Make sure your room isn't too hot.

439491 2006-03-21 09:15:00 Are you physically tired or are you also sleepy when you go to bed? If you are only physically tired but not particularly sleepy may be you are going to bed too early and need some sort of tonic to tune up your physical condition. If you are an adult 10 o'clock is pretty early to go to bed. For most of my adult life I am rarely in bed before midnight and up again by 6.30. WMoore's advise is good though the sound of the waterfall would only make me want to go to the toilet tutaenui (1724)
439492 2006-03-21 09:34:00 Interesting that so many people have the same problem. This Australian site suggests 1 in 3 people have sleep problems at some stage of their lives. www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au

I cannot ever remember sleeping well and have never found a remedy. However there is some good advice available which unfortunately I've not followed. :D

Sometimes insomnia is caused by underlying stress even though you aren't aware of it. Valerian is a herbal remedy which has a good reputation - freely available.

One method is to imagine a safe peaceful place in your mind where you can go and cannot be disturbed. This is a relaxation technique which is used successfully.

That is all sounding terribly New Age. The only thing I would add is not to expect pills to provide an answer. Long-term studies do not support their effectiveness.

439494 2006-03-21 10:04:00 wmoore - I agree with tutaenui the waterfall will make me need a pit stop :D
I have my stereo going but I will try talkback.
My window is open a little all the time, the temp is perfect.

tutaenui - My eyes feel heavy that is all if that makes any sense

Winston001 - wow that is a few people. LOL. Can you please elaborate more on your "safe peaceful place" like what works for you.
I have herd bad things about pills... :groan:

439495 2006-03-21 10:24:00 Oh, that must have been very frightening.
Hell yeah! That evening I had consumed a fair amount of cola which meant I couldnt sleep. I was up playing C&C Red Alert and I could swear I was hearing unusual noises coming from the garage.

At around 2AM I couldn't stand it so I went into the garage and turned the lights on. I had a look at the ranch-slider door there and noticed that there were two cuts in the mesh screen around where the door lock was, which dumbfounded me, so I went into the Kitchen, wondering about what could have caused it.

THEN... the auto floodlights went on and then I saw a male polynesian/pacific islander about late 20's early 30's bald in a sleeveless jacket with a screwdriver in his hand run by.

I foolishly ran outside slamming the front door behind me looking for this F***********, but by the time I got out he had disappeared into the shadows.

Apparently this guy tried to jemmy open a gap between the ranchslider door and the frame in an attempt to get at the locking mechanism. He also tried the lounge ranch slider door too with no luck.

Not only that but around September/October last year someone moved a ceramic tile on our roof and cut into the protective paper under it. I only noticed it after our neighbours saw it. Probably not related, but now, I'm as jumpy as ever when it comes to sleeping.

Ok maybe not a waterfall. But nature type sounds. Another idea is to buy some Kenny G CD's. That will put you to sleep.

I go to bed around 11.30-12.00 each night and up again around 5.30am

439497 2006-03-21 10:30:00 Regular sleep is a luxury i gave up when i decided that i should dedicate my life to my calling - show work....

I will say that i do find it a hell of a lot easier to function when i get into a regular sleep pattern, not that it ever lasts long
