Altho if the headphones are still plugged in, did you change the default audio device to the onboard soundcard?

Since, if the headphones are plugged in, and drivers are installed for it. (did it need drivers)? It maybe set as the device audio device.

Which is why you wont hear sound from the onboard soundcard

The headset requires no set up at all. Plug it in and it is self setting.
I am running the same set up as Pat, but I don't have any speakers.

Looking in my sounds setup I see Logitek is selected. There is the option to switch to sound max. But it seems there is no way to run speakers and headset together.
If he changes his settings to sound max it could be an answer.

Control Panel/Sounds and audio devices/Audio

Also one other thing. MSCONFIG./services..From memory, I think the sound may be unticked.

Which is why you wont hear sound from the onboard soundcardThe only thing appearing in the Audio and Sound is Logitech phones, not alternative .
The phones do not need a driver .
I need a little more help if possible but am in no hurry .
I am not sure if I am on the right track .
I downloaded KB888111 and unpacked it into a folder which contains:
(commonfiles), (update), (win2k), (winxp), empty . cat, spunist . exe, and spupdsvc . exe
In the (commonfiles) I have hdaprop . dll, hdashcut . exe, hdaudbus . inf, hdausbus . sys, hdaudio . inf, hdaudio . sys, and hdaudres .
Am I on the right track . ? If so where do I go from here . ?

1) Use 7-zip or WinRAR to extract

2) Extract KB888111XPSP2.exe to a folder such as C:\KB888111XPSP2

Do these steps

3) Open Device Manager, search for the Unknown PCI device

4) Right click on the Unknown PCI device to update the driver

5) Point the driver path to this C:\KB888111XPSP2\commonfiles\

But there is an entry for "windows Audio"

Did you check up that sound max is installed from the M/B setup disk? You shouldn't need any more drivers

692738 2008-07-28 04:01:00 Thats the prob Jack, Pato needs to install the "fix - KB888111" before the main drivers will install. Since its HD Audio

Which is why, it wont appear in startup, or appear in Control panel

692740 2008-07-28 04:35:00 It may not matter what the file is called.

Just as long as the folders (that commonfiles folder is in it) / files that are in the link I posted are there, it MAY work.

Do steps 3 to 5 and see if it works

If you've extracted 888111, are these files in the commonfiles folder ? (www.imagef1.net.nz)

If they are, it should work
