692652 2008-07-27 09:38:00 No, it wasn't the right thing, but thanks all the same Wainuitech,
Last week I thought that I had fixed the prob, but I spoke too soon. The icon for Pro set Wireless is white with a red cross through it in the system tray. When I click on it, it says there are no supported network adapters in the system.

So I am back to square 1.

Yes the girl with the hammer, Just how I feel, lol!

692653 2008-07-27 10:32:00 Dont know if its of any help - have a look back on that link, there is a set of drivers for the Intel Pro/Wireless - 1st item under Driver - Network, are these installed ?

Also notice other wireless drivers in the List ??? - might pay to download them all, and unpack the exe, usually the exe files put the drivers in a folder C:\HP\Drivers\??? ( ??? being the name of the driver/object Eg LAN) then you go in via the device manager and aim the ! at the folder concerned.

692654 2008-07-27 10:52:00 The drivers for the Intel proset wireless network 2200gb I already have on a flash drive and I installed them three days ago. It worked for about half an hour and then dropped off completely. And I did try the one you suggested, to no avail.

I even uninstalled the entire thing (proset wireless) and reinstalled it with the latest drivers but that didn't work either.

I just went back into device manager and found the yellow mark is still on it, but the PCI Communications controller has disappeared altogether! It used to come up with "Found new hardware" at boot up. But is now nowhere in sight. Strange?!

692656 2008-07-28 01:20:00 I have decided to do a complete reinstall, will post back here the outcome. Of course if the connection doesn't come back on as normal, I am screwed cos I won't be able to download all the updates! lakewoodlady (103)
692657 2008-07-28 03:39:00 How long does it usually take to do a clean reinstall? I started it at 12.30 and it is now 3 pm? Should it have finished yet? The screen is blank and doesn't seem to be doing much. lakewoodlady (103)
692658 2008-07-28 03:45:00 If its Vista, it'll probably be 2+ hrs (pressf1.co.nz) Speedy Gonzales (78)
692659 2008-07-28 03:49:00 No, it's XP. Should I wait much longer, or should I eject cd? lakewoodlady (103)
692660 2008-07-28 03:53:00 XP usually take 40-45 minutes.

Altho, if its a recovery cd, it may take longer. Since it installs XP, the drivers, programs etc.

It may also depend on whether (if youre using a recovery DVD or cd's), the last time, I did this it was 13 cds !

I remember reinstalling a laptop with recovery cds a while ago tho, it definitely didnt take over 2 hrs to reinstall it

692661 2008-07-28 03:56:00 Mmmmm........ No, I'm using the Windows Xp Home install cd, not the recovery one. I tried the recovery one but it didn't work properly. lakewoodlady (103)
