Now I can't enable System Restore, the check box in always checked after unchecking it in Trouble Shooting in System Properties. I can't even find a Restore folder and it isn't listed under Tools in the start Menu anymore. Also, when I click on System Information in the start menu nothing happens.
If thats a hopeless case, I see on my Recovery disk that I can format OVER the existing installation of ME instaed of reformatting. OK, here comes the dumb question. If I install over the old installation, would all my updates have precedent over the latest installations [drives, etc]?

692668 2008-07-27 04:23:00 If you use the restore CD's, depending on how they have been made, some will wipe the drive and put it back to how it was when you first purchased it, deleting all data, programs, updates evrything - so it pays to backup anything you dont want to lose.

Sometimes the recovery CD will allow you to do a repair install, keeping all data/programs, just replacing the Main OS.

Which ever it does, you usually need to redownload any updates etc.
