| 439004 | 2006-03-19 03:17:00 | Is this any better than using Virtual PC on a Mac? I am not sure why dual booting would be more effective than using Virtual PC - if you dual boot, you have to re-boot if you want to use the other OS. If you use Virtual PC, it merely involves opening another application on your Mac, and IIRC you can copy and paste across (I may be wrong about this). Plus with Virtual PC you can save your Windoze session so it restarts in the same state - you can't do that dual booting. Am I missing something here? Or is it just the challenge rather than the outcome that is important? |

| 439005 | 2006-03-19 03:22:00 | "because it's there", John. Another reason is that "they" say you mustn't do it. For the same reason, people run the Apple OS X on PCs. | Graham L (2) | ||

| 439008 | 2006-03-19 05:51:00 | Well, when I used Virtual PC years ago there was no appreciable speed difference. The REAL speed diff will come in having to reboot when you want to change OS! | John H (8) | ||

The REAL speed diff will come in having to reboot when you want to change OS!Last time I used virtual PC in OSX it ran *s l o w* for anything that was more complicated than excel . Sound (which is what I was trying to use it for), and anything vaguly interesting with graphics just killed it . I also remember waiting for the virtual PC to boot too . While there is a long way to go with the WinXP on intel Mac (almost all the drivers for a start) I think it's fantastic idea for those applications you *have* to have windows for . -Qyiet |
