693534 2008-07-30 03:44:00 Everything is 100% concerning the settings with the microphone. Windows doesnt let me unmute my microphone neither does my "Sound Blaster LIVE! 24bit sound card" I have disabled my AC97 in the bios and yet nothing.

Windows automatically mutes my: Microphone; Line-In; S/PDIF-IN and Auxiliary. If i unmute my mic then, * S/PDIF-In - Line-In & Auxiliary mutes.
Drivers are up to date, installed 100%

Thank you!

Are you sure it's the "mute" tick box that windows automatically selects for you, or is it "select"?

Have you looked for a driver update for the SB Live card?

693538 2008-07-30 04:14:00 The normal situation is the mic always muted in the main Windows mixer - if it wasn't the mic will pick up sounds all the time, if the volume isn't set to an inaudiable level. If the software that requires the mic works properly, it automatically un-mutes the mic when in the main Windows mixer the program needs it, and mutes it again when you exit the program.

What the problem usually is, other than possibly the software not installing correctly for the program that uses the mic, is there may be several applications on a computer that can mute the mic, and one of those is set to mute it. E.g. a speech to text program. Sometimes the software is faulty and the mic remains muted even when you are not actively using the program.

If your mic is into a port on the front of the computer and not plugged into the mic port in your onboard sound ports or the mic port in your sound card, the port may not be wired correctly .

693539 2008-07-30 04:16:00 Try looking at these settings --- Double click the Speaker in the icon tray, top left, select Options / Advanced Controls, make sure nothing is muted in any of the settings/ sliding bars.

If you dont have advanced controls ( grayed out) select Options /Properties, then tick Line in, Microphone and SPDIF, then advanced properties will be available.

IF it still mutes click start/ Control panel, Locate Sounds and audio Devices, open it, Look at the Audio and Voice tabs, make sure the devices are all the same in every tab. If one is different they could be canceling one another out.

Failing all of the above, uninstall the audio drivers and reinstall them.

Also check in the settings of any messenger programs, make sure nothing is muted there.

693541 2008-07-30 13:21:00 Hi folks. I have the same problem. The mic is built into the Compaq MV720 monitor (an oldie I know, but, it works!) The mic used to work well, but after upgrading to XPSP3, it stopped! (I use it for 'Skype') However the 'pink' plug-in on the back of the 'box' does the job for a headset mic! I strongly suspect 'SP3' as the cause of the problem !

693542 2008-07-30 13:29:00 Sound device page/sound recording device set to your mic?
These areas may be greyed. Also have you ran another mic through as a test?
