| 440158 | 2006-03-27 20:31:00 | :waughh: Surely we have the right to perform a war dance on foreign soil! Soil owned by a previous enemy :waughh: . As NZers we have the right to perform a war dance at the drop of a hat!OK . . . lets be analytical and real to the point where the haka is identified as a wardance . . . . Now lets carry that through to sporting events in themselves . upon opening our eyes we can see that in these civilized times we have replaced: -"my army is bigger than your army and we're going to prove it by waging war, burning your crops, raping your women, and generally giving you foreign people a hard time" with "My john is a faster runner than your john, and we can have a multibillion dollar event just to see which john is faster, and therefore which gang (country) is the coolest . Nah nah nah-nah" So . . . . Why is a "wardance" or a challenge inappropriate? It seems perfectly appropriate, unless we wish to continue to pretend to be above all the challenge and other rot . We're hiding our primal desires of dominance behind civilized behavior, so we can get on with invading oil rich countries, being asses at home and all the rest of the good stuff we apparently civilized people do o so well . Nothing new here . Such behavior can be found at the core of most cultures, and most political and religious systems . Bring on proper games where people fight to the death, or give up on it alltogether i say! :D |
