I love the place, but have often felt sorry for "day trippers," with only a few hours there, who unfortunately struck a bad day. It's an expensive trip to end up just sitting in the pub or walking through sodden bush. Leave it until you have enough time for a proper visit. |

| 440889 | 2006-03-27 23:54:00 | In kaikoura there is a great walk around the Peninsula and then back over the top . Well worth it for the sea life, such as seals and gulls . It takes about 2 hours, I think . North of Kaikoura is a gorge off the main road called "Saw cut gorge" its a neat place to visit and its only body width for quite a way . I have seen pics of it in adverts so its quite famous yet few people visit it . Otherwise tramping up Mt Fyfe behind Kaikoura is well worth it . Takes about a day there and back, but stunning views and a great walk . Mt Cook, and the walk to Hookers glacier is always worth it . Just for the air and the atmosphere and the grandeur of the mountains . It scenery like that that make me really love NZ . Outside of Wanaka is a great walk to the Rob Roy glacier, walk up the beautiful matukituki valley . |
