440029 2006-03-23 08:41:00 Yeah, it won't exactly be fast. I installed Mac OS X 10.2 on a Wallstreet PowerBook (I think it was about 266MHz) and it worked ok, but you certainly wouldn't want to use it as your primary computer. maccrazy (6741)
440030 2006-03-24 05:48:00 Speed isn't really the reason for the change in os, it's just that the kids use osx at school (and i want to play with it)

just found out the original imacs may be able to take more ram that i originally realised, although mac ram is not cheap at all

Mac ram is no different to pc ram or linux ram. The fact that it is old ram and hard to get is the reason it is expensive

yeah i know, i just wish everyone used the same style of ram back then as i just looked at an NZ site yesterday $130 for a 128mb stick of the correct ram (almost cheaper to buy another second hand mac with better specs)

Thanks for the help all

Yep been there and had a good look, the major problem i am having is that the maximium ram listed for my machine is variously listed as 198mb max on some sites and 384mb on others (can't work that one out with only 2 slots) and 512mb max on others,

oh well, i thonk i'll add the mac to my "to do later" list

Thanks all
