693575 2008-07-30 06:12:00 I have read various suggestions as to the settings to be used for broaband connections, but how does the lag from satellite usage interfere with the internet speed?

Is there any way of taking the lag into consideration or should standard settings be used? I am using 512/128 setup.

Cheers

693576 2008-07-30 07:17:00 Your speed is affected by the need for your downloaded packets to be acknowledged.

You MAY be able to improve things by using something like TCPOptimiser. (get it from SpeedGuide.net)

It will make a back-up of all your settings, so you can revert if neccesary.

693577 2008-07-30 10:39:00 for each request you have to wait say 1 sec for a reply. thats ok for downloading a file as you only send a few requests. however a wep page may have 20-30 requests. depending on your browser it may not display untill all the requests have been replied to. even tho the data amount is small having to wait for each request slows the web page down a lot.

lag is something you can't get rid of.

you can tweak the tcp settings, can have improvement especialy for steaming sites. just be aware that if your uploading via dailup that some sites do not play nicly with broken packets (lan sized packets for sat don't work to well over dailup)

Downloading large files/apps seem to be OK. Will try to tweak firefox to speed up the loading of pages.
