692915 2008-07-28 01:31:00 Hi i`m new here to this forum and not sure if this is the right place to ask .. i just installed my first webcam (logitech quickcam communicate stx ) , but seem to have a prob with the incoming audio, i used windows live messenger and called a friend in the UK who could see and hear me fine and i could see him fine but without any sound !
I installed and configured the microphone and speakers using the installation disc, installed the latest drivers etc . and used the test recorder to record and play back my image and voice with no problems i also used the windows live messenger set up for the webcam and again the speaker test where i heard the music playback was fine also .
i now really need some kind of test where an external source can be used to test it again,or even somebody with a webcam to help me try it again from NZ but i dont know anybody :-( .
I can`t seem to find anything online that tests audio in this way, just video. Maybe someone on here could help me .
sorry for this long 1st post . scif.

692916 2008-07-28 02:54:00 Seeing as everything works as per your tests then I'd guess the problem is at his end with his mic. pctek (84)
692917 2008-07-28 06:51:00 Hi pctek , he uses his webcam daily and assures me this is a first . i would like to try and find if the audio is indeed present my end ! theres a online site called testmywebcam but this only shows the cam image without testing the audio i need something similar but with a sound test ,to confirm audio input to my computer via a external microphone source. (if it exsists !) scif (14018)
692918 2008-07-28 07:27:00 Welcome to PF1 scif - I don't know what sort of audio testing MSN has these days as its been a few years since I used it. But skype messenger has a built in tester to set up your audio.

When you set it up to do a test you talk as if you are talking to someone. It records what you say and then plays it back, if your setup is working correctly you will hear every thing.

there were some reports that skype has a few security bugs a while back, but one would assume they have been fixed now.

If you want to try skype heres the home page (www.skype.com)

692919 2008-07-28 11:07:00 Hi wainuitech, i have a skype usb phone already installed thats configured to use the usb handsets speaker and microphone. would this possibly affect the incoming audio to the speakers using messenger in some way ! the microphone is certainly independent and unaffected as ive talked without a problem using the webcam microphone. The webcams installation disc tests for audio where i selected the webcams microphone and the computers speakers recorded my own voice and played it back through the speakers without any problem ! could skype be stopping the audio to the speakers somehow on the incoming messenger call , will i have to reconfigure skype for use not using the handset speaker ,i hope not ,as this really would be a pain privacy wise .
has anybody a skype phone and webcam setup thats working together but independent of each other i.e. webcam using webcam microphone with computer speakers and skype usb phone using skype handset microphone and handset speaker configuration , have you had any skype v windows live messenger programme conflict problems.
isnt there just a simple webcam test somewhere online for audio from a external microphone source to avoid any possible unneeded reconfigurations to my computer setup ?
