441133 2006-03-27 07:21:00 Can Vodafone reactivate sim cards? I've got a sim2card in my phone and i've not toopped up for ages coz of the free weekends (text off telecom in week and vodafone in weekends) and i rang vodafone to re-activate it today, and they said "sorry reactivation of sim cards is impossible"...I know its not impossible as I reactivcated a friends simcard for her last christmas....

I'm asking here, is it really possible to reactivate it (even if i know it is), or is vodafone actually correct?

Is there any other way of activating it instead of ringing vodafone?

Thanks in advance :)

Chris

441134 2006-03-27 07:25:00 If you do not top up your sim card within a year vodafone will then disable to sim card.

You will then need to buy a new sim card.

441136 2006-03-27 07:32:00 Take your phone in to your local Vodafone shop, they can do just about anything. Jester (13)
441137 2006-03-27 09:27:00 Hmm they told me if its not topped up in a year their system deletes the number Ninjabear (2948)
441138 2006-03-27 11:50:00 I'm having a similar argument with Vodaphone at the moment on behalf of my daughter. Her original phone broke & she didn't replace it for ages. When she did the Sim card was disabled through lack of top up. I want to know why they have to disable them if you don't top up in 12 months. Once she buys that Sim card & number it should be her card to do what she likes with. The only reason I can think of is greed in making the owner pay for top ups or for another new card. I wrote & asked them to explain the reason & got some crap in return about the Privacy act not allowing them to do anything with her account. Wot? Will be writing back to them as I am not satisfied with the answer or lack of. Peter M (852)
441139 2006-03-27 13:50:00 Hey Peter M,

Greed possibly but it's stated in their terms.

With Vodafone, they own that sim card and are letting you use their service via it. I didn't realise that actually deactivated the number. As far as I was aware, only the credit expires but they do have the right to deactivate the number, and I believe they do give out warnings that it's going to happen, maybe via text messaging which wouldn't help you, but if they had alternative means of contacting you, then that should have been stressed. Also vodafone owns the number, once deactivated, I think it goes into a holding pool for a period of time, before being given to another phone.

Reactivation may cost, but you'll have to take in into a vodafone outlet and see what they say. I'm thinking there's nothing they can do about it, especially if the number has been put in the holding pool or worse, assigned to another phone. I still suggest seeing them though it's the only way to know for sure if it is possible.

Maybe Vodafone did not do enough to get the disconnection message through, that could be a side you can take?

Cheers,

KK

441141 2006-03-28 02:45:00 They have the disconnection after 12 months of no top-ups to stop people from using the phone to just receive calls / text messages. CYaBro (73)

Yes that is probably right but someone is still paying for the phone call or the text. Sure it may be a Telecom caller and Telecom gets the dosh but it may just as easily be another Vodaphone user.
