439858 2006-03-22 07:07:00 Hi All

Looking at buying one of these jiggers on EBay cause they are going quite cheaply and getting sick of waiting for the Creative Zen Vision: M to arrive in NZ (which'll cost $500+ anyway).
Wanted to know if it plays/supports MP3 files natively -- that is do you have to go through the re-encoding to Sony's proprietary ATRAC codec as was the case with previous versions/models of the NET MD when downloading/xferring MP3 files from your PC to the NET MD player or not.
Scoured the internet for an answer which I thought wouldn't be so hard but can't seem to find all conquering info-wise review.

Thanks in advance

Paul

439859 2006-03-22 15:33:00 There are currently No Sony Md players that can just play Mp3 but MZ-N910 supports real player so you can avoid using sonicstage to convert to atrac format.

Sony's Sonic Stage is a hassle. It won't let you import most of the mp3's you have.

I have played around with alot of sony walkmans and they all suck at the moment because of sonic stage.

Why don't you buy creative zen vision m at trademe? The guy up there does offer 1 year warranty..He's got very good feedback too.

439860 2006-03-22 15:34:00 I should rephrase that

Not a single Sony Walkman Supports Mp3.

All are required to go thru Atrac

439861 2006-03-22 21:53:00 I should rephrase that

Not a single Sony Walkman Supports Mp3.

All are required to go thru AtracThat *used* to be the case, but a while ago (because *everyone* hated that) sony relented, and let people use MP3s... they even released firmware updates for some of their players.. I don't think this is one of them though.

I too would go with a creative zen.

439862 2006-03-22 23:35:00 If you look closely

The bean can use what is called a mp3 file manager but still Sony converts the mp3s into a different kind of format then transfer it to the mp3 player.

They play the word a bit but they don't 100% support mp3

439863 2006-03-22 23:38:00 try dragging mp3s thru sonic stage with the mw-a1000 and nw-a3000 series.

You will find it very annoying.!It won't let you drag anything in!

The behind process is that it lets you drag mp3 but sonicstage turns it into a format inorder for the player to play. The format changing occurs when you click import the songs to your player

In the old days It converted from mp3 to atrac format then shows up at the list of sonic stage

439864 2006-03-23 00:51:00 Not so, my HD5 plays MP3 natively - I have around 3000 MP3s (and 500 Atrac files) and they are not re-encoded. Though it did require a firmware and software upgrade to be supported natively. Previously they would re-encode, though this changed some time ago. I understand the newer NWA3000 will also play MP3s natively.
Sounds like 'bear is a Sony hater!

439865 2006-03-23 02:05:00 lol.No Im not a sony hater as I sell sony products at trademe.lol

If you drag mp3s from nwhd5 to your deskptop.I don't think windows media player or winamp can play it.Is this correct?

I have used NW-a1000 and nw-a3000 and aalso nw-hd5.

I also tried NW-a608,nW-e505 AND e507.

I have NW-E307 Bean at home

The NW-A1000 and A3000 is too heavy.

NW-A608 doesn't support the mp3 file manager.

I have tried most of their network walkman but I found that the sound quality is rather bassy blocking out the treble sound. The High frequency sound is hardly hearable.

At the end I tried ipod nano .Didnt like the sound quality so went to Creative Zen Micro Photo.

But then a month after I purchased it Creative Zen Vision M and the sound quality of that was better.Regret buying my micro photo now :groan:

439866 2006-03-23 02:07:00 I think sony realised their mistake after they released NW-HD1.

After hearing so many complains they made a firmware upgrade for nwhd1 to read mp3

439867 2006-03-23 02:09:00 Ipod Nano is of the opposite.Too much high frequency hardly any bass.

Sorry If I sound as though I expect high standards but I like to play around.lol

Creative Zen Vision M supports more format than Ipod Video and a lot cheaper too.

I think people are just buying an ipod because of the name *ipod* without actually thinking and comparing the other players.

But..

Sony Ericsson Bluetooth headset HBH-PV700 is alot better than nokia bluetooth headset .It doesn't hurt your ear after long wearing and the sound quality is very much better than Nokia.

Sony Ericsson Mobiles are genuinely quite good. They say that Sony Ericsson mobiles have noise cancelling capabilities which cancels outside noise while you hear someone talking but their mobiles are kind of basic.I rather have a symbian mobile

I own a Nokia N70 and if Sony Ericsson Mobile did release a Symbian Mobile I would consider Sony Ericsson.

However the M600,W950I supports symbian but doesn't have a camera and now nokia will be releasing Wifi with their mobile which sony ericsson has no plans to implement this feature.

I don't think Im a Sony Hater.I do buy Sony products but I don't go rushing into the fact Sony or Apple is the best :D
