1427313 2016-10-12 05:18:00 Not quite midnight and it's 24F outside . The promise is for the teens tonight .

We had snow flurries for a while today - they didn't stick at all though . I was hoping to make a snowman - but it's not to be --- YET .

I've taken all my water based paints and glues from out in the garage and brought them inside for the winter like I did last year . Checking the temps in the garage, it's still 38F in there and 23% humidity . I expect that all the windshields will be iced over in the AM .

Soon the Astro Van will be parked inside one half of my garage-cum workshop, just to keep the snow off it and keep the windshield clean and snow-less .

I guess the canoe will get into it's new non-home - OUTSIDE and upside down on a rack .

The garden hoses are not drained yet though . That's gonna be a problem tomorrow - but I did the lawn for the last mowing of the year I think - yesterday .

All the cars and vehicles are running with -30F coolant in them, so they're OK I'm sure . Their batteries - on the ones that don't run daily - are all charged so they won't freeze until it gets really REALLY cold . A fully-charged battery is safe to about -78F I think .

Friday promises 100% chance of rain and snow at higher elevations . We are at 3,260 feet above sea level, so we MAY get some snow to fall and collect, but not really snarl traffic up too much I bet . Road To The Sun in Glacier National Park is closed for the season because of snow .

There are a lot of ex-pat Californians here now - it seems that everyone is from SoCal . My last trip to the Marcus Daly ER got me a young surfer chick doctor from Huntington Beach, California . , my RN was from Hemet (California) and the paramedic was from the San Bernardino (California) Fire Department in Twentynine Palms - he said .

My tire chains are all oiled up to protect them from rust - the Astro Van has brand new tires on it as does the Blazer . The Isuzu still has a tremendously good tread left even though they are over 40,000 miles and 7 years old .

My Case tractor has a nice set of tire chains too . The van has both chains and Quick-On Cables for those times when it gets stuck in a snow storm and Rosanna has to put them on .

The Suzuki ATV is all charged up, battery-wise, so it's ready too . It doesn't need chains as it's got a 'live rear axle' that has deeply studded tire on it already .

We got another three cords of firewood a week or so ago up on Lost Horse Road - compliments of the US Forest Department . Added to our already two cords we have a total of almost 5 cords I think .

C'mon winter! I'm ready .

1427315 2016-10-12 05:30:00 Hi Joe. 25 degrees centigrade (77F in your strange measuring ways) here in Napier today. Felt like the first day of summer.. except the blossom on the flowering cherry trees in our street hasn't come out yet. Looking back 4 years on the same day, I have some video of the trees in full blossom. Damn this climate change. :waughh:

1427317 2016-10-12 05:49:00 We are in spring here in 'upside down land' and the lawns are growing well. Curses, we have had to mow lawns for the past few weeks. Bobh (5192)
1427318 2016-10-12 07:30:00 Saw it on the news tonight. Strange to see Arrowtown covered in snow. There was a shot of spring tulips in full bloom covered in snow.

A year or two ago we had snow during September/October in Invercargill.

1427319 2016-10-12 08:07:00 23% humidity... that's the part that's hard to grasp for me. 50% is low around these parts, and winter is no dryer than summer. Right now sitting next to an open window it's 21c (70F for the decimally challenged) and 60% humidity in my office. dugimodo (138)
1427320 2016-10-12 08:38:00 Cheese Joe, that's not a climate, its a test. (Snow is for other people to take photos of, not for having within 160 km, or 100 miles.)
No wonder you only have 110 volts, all the insulation has to go in ceilings, walls, floors, socks, mittens, gloves, ear muffs and keyholes to keep the snow out. ;)

1427322 2016-10-12 09:03:00 Hibernation time for people...and animals - So I guess a bit safer from Grizzly's, Bobcats, and Gray wolves from Yellowstone and Glacier National parks? i recall the '76 Grizzly movie chasing people in the mountains - though I guess during spring time. kahawai chaser (3545)
