I guess the big test will be next week.
Interesting, I actually used a gmail address to logon to MS.

Thanks for the help guys. You can use any email address you like, all registering does is associate your computer with the email provided, saves having many email addresses, ON saying that  I got at least 4, and the most used one has 3 computers assigned to it. :)

1429199 2016-12-06 01:31:00 Got the new system up & running ok.
Having problems reactivating.
Tried several times, but are getting the "We can't reactivate Windows as our servers aren't available right now. Wait for a few minutes or try adding your Microsoft account again"

1429200 2016-12-06 02:33:00 Depending on how you went, Eg: either new install or use the original. If you did a fresh install you should have used the original Product key since it was a new board because the original Key was licensed to the original Motherboard. Also depends on if you linked the original to to your Microsoft ID.

Other wise try this - Open a CMD as admin, type in slui 3 press enter, when the window opens type in the original Product key, hopefully should activate.

1429201 2016-12-06 03:27:00 I went with plan A from post #1

If I open my Microsoft account this system is listed under devices linked to my account.

I'll keep trying, I don't want to have to phone MS.

1429202 2016-12-06 03:45:00 Did you click on Troubleshoot? , then "I changed Hardware on This Device Recently" Lawrence (2987)
1429203 2016-12-06 05:00:00 Yes, then got prompted for password.
Then got the message.

1429204 2016-12-06 23:14:00 Ok we can put this thread to bed.

After the tenth time of trying the troubleshooter method, I gave up on that.
Tried the original Win 7 key & it worked.
Activation still shows, as linked to my MS account.

So there are still a few bugs in MS's reactivation process.
I would have been snookered without that key.
Would of had to make the dreaded phone call.
Don't know how that would have gone.

Thanks for the help guys.

1429205 2016-12-06 23:42:00 So there are still a few bugs in MS's reactivation process. Not really.
You see the original OS would have been tied to the motherboards tattoo ID (code) . So the original OS was looking for a specific set of codes on Microsoft Servers to match the Motherboard.
The licence key would have been looking for one number, but the new motherboard was different to the original. When the original Key was re-entered it now is associated to the new board.

This is why if you ever do a complete reinstall now you wont have to enter the licence key as the Motherboard is now registered.

Microsoft or Local Account?
Mine was through a gmail address but MS referred to it as a Microsoft account.

Had a read through that link yesterday.
