1429098 2016-11-23 04:35:00 Na BM,if you read this www.howtogeek.com and linked Your Windows 10 License with a Microsoft Account you could drag your PC outside and get your shotgun and deal to it

After which rebuild and activate using your Microsoft account for that particular PC

1429099 2016-11-23 06:17:00 Not exactly -- Its Been like that since XP. OEM which is what most people have, the licences have always been tied to the hardware. This is why OEM has always been cheaper than retail.

OEM = Tied to Computer/Hardware.

I’ve got an old XP machine here that would have had more bits removed and replaced than the Orthopaedic Ward at Wellington Hospital, and it still goes fine.

The HDD must have drivers for every conceivable device, but it seems to find the right one despite most people saying you can’t just keep adding.

But the bottom line is I never had the hassles with Microsoft then that I’m having now.

I guess having the installation disk and the key made the difference. ;)

That's very good Lawrence and I've bookmarked the site, but how the hell do you expect Joe Citizen to know about it, let alone apply the fix.

Plus, it's a pretty poor show when it takes a Geek forum to tell you what Microsoft should have.

Easy. It's automatically applied to your Microsoft account if you use one to log in. ;)

1429102 2016-11-23 06:59:00 Easy . It's automatically applied to your Microsoft account if you use one to log in . ;)

What Microsoft account?

One Laptop was upgraded from Win7 and the other from Win 8 . 1 .

Neither log in anywhere .

They're turned on and expected to work . ;)

That expectation is way over the top these days with Win 10 .

Just like everyone who uses windows is not expected to know everything about Windows & microsoft, Everyone who uses Linux is not expected to know how to do everything relating to Linux - Point being --
I’m embarrassed to have to ask this, but how does one place a short-cut to a website on ones desktop using Kubuntu and Firefox

NOW doing a google search for some problem will bring up lots of useless answers (ANY OS), wording it correctly will bring up sites that tell you how. Its all in the wording entered when searching. ;)

If you search Google with the right wording relating to what was done it brings up answers - as they have been presented in this thread. Bit like the original post, no where was it mentioned about a motherboard change.

No password on either of them!?

1429105 2016-11-23 08:24:00 A person Doesn't have to have any passwords on W10. Then again you can have several.

I'll explain by giving the setup on this PC.

1.It has a password to log in, but that's ONLY to link to my server.
2.I have a different user name and password for Logging into the Windows Store.
3.Different user name and password again to log into the insider program.
4.Different user name and password for anything Google ( gmail etc)
5.Different User name and password again for Microsoft Calendar - which is linked to one of the workshop PC's as well as the Office PC and phone , so make a alteration on any of them and it appears on the others.
6. Different user names and passwords for two other Outlook.com accounts.

The good thing about W10 is you can sign into a single app instead of the whole PC.

I guess having the installation disk and the key made the difference. ;) The motherboard is the main component, even then Sometimes if a Motherboard is changed it didn't kill the activation, other times it did.

Having all the Extra drivers installed is not a good idea, bit like having a untidy room in the house, some times it will cause problems ( junk everywhere, cant find everything) other times it wont matter. Windows ( no matter which version) doesn't have drivers for everything, older versions XP, etc often had to be downloaded from the manufactures sit, that's why motherboards ( even today) come with a CD with drivers for that board.
