| 1429285 | 2016-11-29 05:44:00 | I recently obtained a couple of Asus laptops to do up for my cousins. The newer one works great, but the older one (an Asus M50VC) seems to struggle with cooling. The fan is blowing and I can feel air coming out of it, but it's always cold. According to Speedfan it idles at around 45 degrees, and gets up to 101 degrees (!) at 100% CPU, but the exhaust air doesn't heat up at all. It doesn't feel hot to the touch either. Both laptops are running a fresh install of Windows 10 so it definitely isn't software related. I've added some new thermal paste to try and sort this out but it doesn't appear to have done anything. Anyone got any ideas? |

Since its only needed for a confirmation - When the Software says its hot, reboot right away, go into the BIOS - under the Hardware monitor , look to see what the Motherboard is saying the CPU temp is. You can also download and run the portable HWinfo -- gives a truck load of info including temp etc www.fosshub.com |

I can't find the hardware monitor in the BIOS :( You can also download and run the portable HWinfo -- gives a truck load of info including temp etc www.fosshub.com The readings from HWinfo are exactly the same, but it also tells me the maximum temperature was 105 degrees. |

I pulled the fan out and gave the whole thing a blast with compressed air. Does it feel hot ? stick you hand underneath, if it feels hot then chances are it is overheating. Is the fan running at full speed, trying to cool it down ? It doesn't feel hot, but the fan is running at full bore. It's the temperature readings that worry me. |

Click on Show More to expand everything, On the left scroll the complete list, windows processes etc, see if Runtime Broker is running, if it is select and end task, see if the thing settles down. Disable all the crap using the CPU as well. watch this --www.screencast.com Then reboot. ( depending the size of your screen and resolution you may need to scroll the window down to see the bottom Actions.) |

Under Windows 7 (the "original" OS) it was showing at 50%, but under Windows 10 it's basically nothing. Temperatures are fine at idle, it's just under load where it's worrying. :) Awww come on, it's just another feature of Windows 10.
