1427424 2016-10-14 19:20:00 Really Prefect, where abouts are you? Fibre has been available in my street for a while now.
Not really interested though.

1427426 2016-10-14 21:35:00 Is fibre really worth all the fuss?

I'm on VDSL, getting great speeds, and experiencing no problems with downloads.

I have fibre at the letterbox but am undecided as to whether to get it connected or not.

Moved house about 45 seconds drive up the street, and the property had UFB already. Wouldn't move somewhere without it now! It's so nice!!

Gratz on the Fibre, lakewoodlady!

Yes and no. I was getting ~32mbps previously so this is a really really nice upgrade, even just 100/20 UFB.
The change from 100/20 to Gig though is a lot less noticeable, but I would 100% recommend getting UFB if you CAN get it, especially while the installation is free (Coz it won't be for ever). Cost is no different from VDSL2 pretty much everywhere for 100/20, so it'll be faster, and Chorus will cover their install (insured) for half a million dollars in the event they cause some damage to your property or whatever, so there's really no excuse not to :)

I also wonder what it's all about. I'm having no problems, but then I don't download movies or any other large files. Is that what makes fibre worthwhile - being able to download movies etc quickly?

1427430 2016-10-15 01:43:00 It's all relative, in the days of 14.4k modems and DOS, when 1MB was a BIG file, we just accepted it as we didn't know anything else.
I can remember waiting forever to download a new version of Netscape, about 1.4MB, and the WWW was the World Wide Wait................

There was just one piddling cable into Waikato University

Now that Win OS downloads are ~5GB..............bring on fibre.....our road is being dug up now, they are supposed to be finished in December
