In the course of a few days I have received three new club cards: AA Card plus one card plus AA smart fuel; New World card plus fly buys, plus fuel; Countdown OneCard plus AA smart fuel, plus gift vouchers. I gather that when I buy fuel I must ask the attendant which card will get me a discount (or which the greater discount if more than one qualifies). And can I expect that Fonterra will begin offering discount milk through some sort of smart card? The possibilities are almost endless. In a few years everyone will need to carry some sort of filofax holding all the plastic cards they could possibly need in a trip to two or three local shops. And which plastic card manufacturer is laughing all the way to the bank? |

There are smartphone apps for loyalty cards, not many places actually seem to like you using them though. I can see that becoming more common eventually, you can carry as many as you want and the phone get's no bigger.
I can't remember what the one I tried was called. Seemed to work ok but despite the app makes claims the bar code scanners at various places don't seem to like it and I went back to the physical cards for now. |
