694172 2008-08-01 13:21:00 First thing I want to say is I have run virus checks over and over and the computer seems to be clean, I have tried to google for answers but it just comes up as scan for viruses/spyware.

This has been happening alot, I'm browsing the net and I leave the computer for about a minute, as soon as I'm active again, the taskbar messes up, the clock disappears and I can't click the start menu as it just shows up nothing is there and is transparent. I managed to get a screenshot Attached file: www.imagef1.net.nz (%5BURL)]taskbar1217594120.jpg[ (14 KB) but I can't get a screenshot of when I click the start menu as it just makes an error sound, and nothing pastes. 90% of the time I just need to hover the mouse over where the clock should be and it comes as Windows Explorer has stopped working and needs to be restarted - then everything is fine until the next time it happens. I used to think that Windows Movie Maker was the cause of it as everytime I had that open it would happen, but I haven't had that open for a few weeks and it's still happening!

I managed to get another screenshot, the icons keep appearing then disappearing as I hover over them, but the clock still doesn't show and neither does the start menu.
Attached file: www.imagef1.net.nz (%5BURL)]taskbar2.jpg[ (11 KB)

I still can't get a screenshot of when I click the start menu.
I've installed all updates on the computer as windows had recommended, but it hasn't made a difference.

Any other ideas on what to do? The computer is still under warrenty, think I should take it back?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hopefully the attachments show, I've never attached files before :o

694174 2008-08-01 21:38:00 Have you tried using a different user account and seeing if the problem still occurs? Jen (38)

What antispyware apps did you run?

Whats the specs of this PC?

Software including the O/S is not covered under the warranty.

694176 2008-08-02 00:10:00 There is only one user on the pc so I haven't tried making up other user accounts to see if the same thing happens. For spyware/viruses I have run Adaware and Avast, I also tried Trojan Remover and nothing came up. I also run Ccleaner quite often and clear out issues etc.
Specs of the PC? Not sure if this is any help

Looks like that report you posted is a common one (www.google.co.nz)

With different programs

Its probably a sleep prob or a corrupted file. Post a hijackthis log its in my sig. We'll see whats on your system

694178 2008-08-02 01:33:00 Seems like a fairly common problem (the stackhash error)

The consensus seems to be to do a repair or reinstall of Vista, you should have a restore partition on that laptop.
Try Speedy's tip (SP1) first though.
