693820 2008-07-31 06:10:00 When I click "Safely Remove Hardware" icon I get the following error:

An exception occurred while trying to run "shell32 . An exception occurred while trying to run "shell32 . dll,Control_Run DLLhotplug . dll”,Control_RunDLL hotplug . An exception occurred while trying to run "shell32 . dll,Control_Run DLLhotplug . dll”

I have uninstalled the USB drivers and reinstalled them . Prior to this the error message would come up but the list of devices installed would list and I the "you can now safely remove your device" would come up . Now, after reinstalling the drivers this message does not come up .

While most of my USB pen drives are recognised, my Thompson Lycra MP3 player is not now found .

I have cleaned the registry .

I suspect a corrupt Windows file (I am using Professional with service pack 3 installed) .

On a second identical laptop everything works .

Is there a fix?:help:

Yes. Recently upgraded to ATI 11 and I have been using HD cloning as part of my backup strategy. I have spent hours trying to track down a solution to this problem and should have twigged sooner. Looks like a solution is available from the the tread you suggested. I will give it a go and post results. Thanks a million.
