693666 2008-07-30 22:43:00 Every time I run a virus scan I am warned about two "critical" updates , viz. MS08-009 and MS08-013.
If I follow the link to "more info" I can find lots of info about the vulnerabilities but am yet to find a link to a fix. Now it may well be that I am particularly thick but it occurs to me that maybe others have had a similar prob. Anybody know where to find the fixes please? Any help (preferably in words of no more than one syllable ) would be most useful.
Ta.

693667 2008-07-30 22:50:00 Go to the windowsupdate site and do a scan.

WHAT virus scanner are you using?? I've never seen a virus scanner, warning about critical updates.

Or put auto updates on notify me, and see if the shield on the taskbar appears

693668 2008-07-30 23:13:00 I might have been a little remiss calling them critical updates - more like critical vulnerabilities....
I have already done as you suggest Speedy and still cannot find the fixes.....Windows at its best.......:annoyed:
Virus checker is Trend Micro Internet Security, current edition........
If I get the Windows update site to check for vulnerabilities, it doesn't seem to think I need to change anything......maybe TM is just paranoid...?
verily, tis a mind****er......(that's mindBLOWer BTW......hehehe)

693669 2008-07-30 23:26:00 Have you got Office 2002/XP/2003??

The 2nd one maybe this (support.microsoft.com)

The other maybe this (support.microsoft.com)

If you see this where the arrow is pointing (www.imagef1.net.nz) on the Windowsupdate site

Click on go, it scans for XP and Office updates.

It sounds like you're using the normal Windowsupdate site, which doesnt scan for Office updates

693670 2008-07-31 00:25:00 Thanks Speedy - I think that has fixed it all up - I will run the checker again now I have updated and see if it will shut up about those vulnerabilities.
FYI, I am still with Office 2000 (it ain't broke so I won't fix it) running XP home.
I was unaware that the site I use did not check for Office updates - thanks for that - might help a lot in future.
Excellent advice - much bling to you.

693671 2008-07-31 00:30:00 No probs :)

Even tho you've got Office 2000 (you dont have to update to a later version).

I would still update it, with the patches.

693672 2008-08-01 06:21:00 Office 2000 has indeed been updated with all available patches Speedy - I do it every time I reload it...(not that often fortunately...)

I ran the checker again after the patches you suggested but the stupid thing still says the vulnerabilities exist....ngngngngng......
