693650 2008-07-30 21:36:00 Hi All,

Rebuilding a really cheap PC for a friend (Pavillion a220a), and the hdd (Samsung) seemed on the noisy side. I ran the SHDIAG tool, which failed due to errors, and recommended a low level format. It got to 100% and then seemed to freeze.

Is it worth carrying on with this drive, or are Spinpoints of that era a bit dodgy?

I'm tempted to re-install XP with a full NTFS format first and see what happens.

Even if you were able to complete a low level format, the problem would come back to haunt you later. Time for a new HDD.

Is Mot still above water this morning??

693653 2008-07-30 23:43:00 No worries. :D

Seriously, you wouldn't know anything had happened. Mot was as per normal lat night and this morning. It's amazing that some of the strongest wind in the country was recorded at nelson airport, Mot was barely affected.

Check out this video. Rather Amazing.
