442762 2006-04-01 09:11:00 Not only are viewers of sky going to get better service when sky put up a new satellite but those with my sky are soon going to have movies and some other channels in 5.1 surround sound once sky get things sorted out with their new satellite this will be for my sky viewers only, i was told this by sky late last year but they havent provided a launch date for the surround sound yet. 442763 2006-04-01 11:26:00 At $600 they can stick mysky, it should included in the subscription. And the costs will soon be recovered Phil B (648)
442764 2006-04-01 12:08:00 Yep, I enjoyed the 'explanation' from SKy last night why the MySky box won't play already recorded stuff when there's no signal... "We have just found out that there is software onboard that, when there is no signal for 1 hour, decides the box has been stolen and won't play anything"

Come on guys, surely if you're buying a container load of the things your techs would know them inside out. Or maybe SKY thought it wasn't a good thing to tell their prospective MySky clients?

442765 2006-04-01 12:17:00 It turns out the problem you explained is a software fault and sky are going to fix the problem. This technology is also going to come out in newer dvd recorders soon so as you cant copy movies from one machine to another and its going to work its way into pcs as well but as usual somone will find a way to hack it. 442766 2006-04-01 23:53:00 A software fault? Can't think of a repeatable expletive to go with that comment.

1. it is not a software 'fault' if it has been programed into the box for a reason.

2. it doesn't excuse SKY for apparently not knowing about the 'software fault' until things turned to crap.

3. it doesn't excuse them by saying that other DVDs etc are going to start using this 'software fault'.

It's the kind of comments that I'd expect from someone who worked for SKY TV :groan:

442767 2006-04-02 00:16:00 It is a software fault i rung sky and they said it is going to be remedied asap they do know about the fault as my sky still have some bugs to iron out and they didnt say that other dvds are going to use this software i read this on another website, and i dont work for sky tv i rung sky and spoke to a technician my self. 442768 2006-04-02 03:42:00 It was probably a feature which was deliberately included. It became a software "fault" only when the signal stopped for everyone. :groan: They thought the satellite would never fail. Until that happens, it's quite a good idea. Graham L (2)
