2006-03-30 23:54:00 | i know ths new optus D1 satellite will have more capacity etc. It says it will also offer pay tv providers Direct to home broadcasting services. What does that mean? And will it provide HDTV? i think new zealand is probably the only country in the world not to have HDTV yet. i think skytv,tvnz,tv3,should join forces and launch their own satellite so they don't have to rely on other satellites. | lance4k (4644) | |
2006-03-31 03:07:00 | simply put no one in NZ has the $$$ to aford a satelite of their own. even all together they could not afford it. | tweak'e (69) | |
2006-03-31 03:26:00 | HDTV is going to be yet another disaster. Britain got it. They crammed in more programme channels than the first decoder chipsets could handle, to maximise their advertising revenue. The quality was very poor. The company went broke in about a year. The BBC might manage to provide HDTV, with half as many channels. | Graham L (2) | |
2006-03-31 05:31:00 | wouldnt know what direct to home broadcasting services is.. but I do know, tvnz is planning on some digital service too (been small mentions every now and then) and they've got some "space" on this satellite.... and yes it provides HDTV as australia is planning on hdtv but i dont know when exactly (why would they launch a satellite now, if they got to do another one for hdtv...so yeah) so maybe nz is in the pipeline....remember you need the special tvs for hdtv.... i'm sasified with my tv quality now, dont see why it needs to be improved...

2006-04-01 03:19:00 | The Simpsons, and South Park are fine at the present resolution. Since they are the only programmes worth watching, why waste money on HDTV? :D | Graham L (2) | |
2006-04-01 21:00:00 | Not more TV... Please, the general populus is already stupified by the plug-in drug as it is. :waughh: :help: :groan:

2006-04-02 00:47:00 | the only way to run decent HDTV system in NZ is via satilite. if they do it via land based your going to end up with a lot of people with no free to air tv reception. the present sytem may be old fashioned but it works, don't fix it untill its broke ! | tweak'e (69) | |
2006-04-02 11:19:00 | Direct-to-home broadcasting is just like SKY Digital TV at the moment, where you have a mini-dish satellite as opposed to the huge satellite dishes used for C-band reception. Direct-to-home broadcasting satellites usually use Ku band and they cover a smaller area. | yzhu (9783) | |
2006-04-02 18:01:00 | Direct to home tv is using a smaller satellite dish cause terresterrial tv seems very unlikely cause it costs more, tvnz and canwest are in talks now about setting up a satellite service together if you want to know more go to stuff.co.nz and scroll down to the bottom of the page you will see it their, it was put up yesterday. | Hitech (9024) | |
