| 441991 | 2006-03-30 08:14:00 | What rot. Ask the person to explain how changing an O/S solves some unrelated problem. Depending how old your PC is may cause more problems. What is the exact problem you are having? With the modem itself or software issues? If you have Win98SE theres no problems using a USB modem, Win98 1st E may, but you could always install a network card. Anything else is likely to be software. So you should get some professional help. |

When I've had to phone the helpdesk they say my modem is connected to the exchange but it seems my computer doesn't reconise that it's connect to the modem via USB. So some days when I start my PC up I can't get a connection to the internet.I end up having to call the help desk and they talk me through the procedure of getting it going.It's just a pain to have to do this .. and the last week I've had to do it twice. :groan: |

| 441996 | 2006-03-30 23:05:00 | It may be a good idea to install the MS Windows 98SE USB update patch if it hasn't already been installed: support.microsoft.com There is also useful info and patches here for USB problems with Win98: www.usbman.com But as tweak'e says an external ADSL modem would be very much better. There is nothing inherently 'wrong' with Win98SE connecting to ADSL, I'd echo pctek on that one. |
