443501 2006-04-04 20:28:00 Regrettably Cicero, only the wealthy residents in Swannanoa will be able to afford the new 50" SED displays. They plan on retention of LCD for smaller displays.

SED apparently displaces Plasma, which is a poor resolution, power hungry technology anyway.

Toshiba and Canon invested $2 billion in a joint-venture with initial plans for 3000 panels of 50" by August 2005. Seen any yet? Expect them to be cheap?
OOOOh you made feel like buying a yacht for a minute there.
Seems a 32" LCD next year will have to do.(when improvements made ;) )

443502 2006-04-05 00:28:00 I agree that there need to be improvemnets to the LCD technology.

I am building a new house this year and have been watching the technology keenly as I am getting a 42" display of some description to be wall mounted and also a projector with 100"-120" screen (both for the same room).

The projector is easy enough as only one stands out from the crowd, however the wall mountable 42"display causes more headaches. LCD is still too 'blocky' in appearance and I would still lean towards a plasma. Hopefully the next generation LCD has a marked quality jump.

443503 2006-04-05 01:17:00 LCD and Plasma are already old technology you are probably better waiting unitl next year when Toshiba and canon launch SED tvs a cross between a normal crt tv and LCD together except the picture is viewed using a crt tube. Its supposed to be way better than LCD and Plasma. 443508 2006-04-27 02:07:00 The SEDs look good but still not to 2007 if this site is acurate.

In NZ at present we are between the devil and the deep blue see regarding flat panel TV sets. With HDTV still a year or two away any TV with tuners sold here will most likely not work when HD does come so it will be a set top boxto recieve it. Is it better (cheaper) just to buy a good LCD panel with lots of inputs and get a MySky type box to use as a tuner until HD arrives the get a HD version..??
It reminds of the days when HiFi VCRs arrive in the country with stereo TV reception. The problem was that TVNZ went Nicam and the VCRs could not be upgraded so folks were stuck with a VCR thant was in mono for TV programs.
