| 442884 | 2006-04-01 20:08:00 | Just been reading in the Herald about Russel Crowe smoking during his act at Sky City. And the sanctimonious mongrels in ASH are up in arms about it. I suppose Crowe, like me, has nothing but contempt for ASH. Why are people like those in ash tolerated? Why are there so many people who think they have a god given right to dictate to others about what they can and can't do? Of course there seems to be a lot of smokers who lack the guts to tell them to mind their own business. |

GO TO A MOTORWAY OVERPASS DURING PEAK HOURS AND BREATH THE FUMES IN FOR 30 MINUTES A DAY FOR A YEAR! HOPEFULLY YOU MIGHT SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE AND DIE! |

I wish I'd never started and the fact I can't smoke in cafes/bars et al anymore suits me fine. Doesnm't bother me, wierd, but I don't even miss it. So good on ASH for thier efforts. And yes I know about the nicotine nazi thing. I was in local cafe where there's a patio outside ytou can smoke on and I was about to light up and this righteaous jerk got all huffy and we almost came to blows. I told him if it offends him he has only to ask rather thn rip in with insults like he did. smoking is like f**ting, if you want to do it then take some consideration for others, it's only civilised. |

They smack of religious zealots to me. Now if they wanted to crusade to get smokey diesels off the road I'd be happy :p | Shortcircuit (1666) | ||

| 442892 | 2006-04-02 00:21:00 | TAFFING ASH. They won't allow people to smoke in bars or pubs, they won't allow war vets to smoke, yet they allow prisoners to smoke. Actually prisoners smoking rights are not what they used to be. There is consideration for those who do not wish to kill themselves with tobacco, even in jails. Prisoners may smoke in their cells, and non smokers are paired up with other non smokers wherever possible so they do not need to have their health compromised by their cellmates filthy addictions. Prisoners may also smoke in outside areas. War vets are allowed to smoke, but just not in an environment where they can endanger the health of others. As for Russel Crow smoking... I couldn't give a damn, so long as it doesn't lead us back to the situation where going out meant coming home stinking like a smoker, then no harm done. As for smoking in general. I believe everyone has the right to degrade themselves, and commit slow suicide, as after all your body is your own if we are to run with the concept of responsibility for onesself. So while i say people have the right to suicide, they do not have the right to murder, and therefore i oppose smoking in a confined public spaces. I do feel that the rules went too far, and that there should be smokers bars, where people may indulge in their addictions either directly or second hand. This would be consensual suicide, and as such i have no problem with it. We have allow the consumption of drugs such as alcohol in rooms full of consenting adults, so why not tobacco as well? Most of the bars i frequent were non smoking long before it was compulsory anyway. They couldn't get away from being beersoaked, but at least they could get away from being fowl smelling, tobacco tainted pits. And yes.. there was a time when i was young stupid, and smoked 100g of drum a week, but i got over it. |
