442277 2006-03-31 00:31:00 Unbelievable excuses #1 .

Just how can a satellite in stationary orbit over the South pacific be affected by an eclipse that was over the NORTHEN Hemisphere starting in Brazil and ending in Turkey?

Also as its in stationary orbit it must be used to an absence of light as it would experience night along with the rest of the South Pacific .

Finally wasn't the eclipse over by 7pm? I saw it on the evening news at 6pm .

Sky TV's nationwide digital service is still disrupted today – thanks to a solar eclipse .

It was halted yesterday shortly before 7pm by an outage on its Optus B1 satellite .

Sky said the eclipse blocked sunlight to the solar cells on the satellite requiring the cells to be recharged after the eclipse and before the process of realigning the signal with earth could continue .

Last night Sky said the satellite was communicating properly with the Optus ground station, but the satellite alignment to New Zealand and Australia had been interrupted .

Sky's chief executive officer John Fellet said today Sky and Optus staff worked through the night to re-power the satellite and restore a signal to Sky .

"It's a delicate process and it's still continuing . "

442279 2006-03-31 02:08:00 :D I also thought their press release sounded a bit dodgey seeing as the eclipse was happening at the otherside of the world .

In the NZ hearld i read that they had, if i remember correctly, 550 . 000 customers . If theyre all paying approx $40 a month for their sky digital then that equates to one hell of a lot of $'s . (and remember, thats a month!)
