444228 2006-04-05 21:54:00 Why bother then? A PC is cheaper and faster and upgradable. pctek (84)
444229 2006-04-05 21:59:00 Thanks for the update, seems that there are several ways to run XP on Mac now. :)
Not really interested myself though as I have no need for any Microsoft software on my Mac.

444230 2006-04-06 01:25:00 could be good if someone sells a dual boot OSX/XP machine off the shelf - Apple are one of the few big names that use quality hardware. Greven (91)

It isn't that great to write home about. They use Western Digital hard drives (yuck). G5 imac had numerous motherboard faults. They have had overheating issues with various models. The iBook was famous for motherboard issues.

444232 2006-04-06 01:37:00 I would rather port MAC OS to a regular PC. Can't see much point of having a dual boot MAC. Get all those nice PC virius. Now if they made something like Wine for MAC to run some PC apps then they may have something.. paulw (1826)
444233 2006-04-06 02:28:00 I don't know why so many people do this, but it's "Mac", not "MAC" - as in short for Macintosh rather than representation of three words starting with M, A and C.

I am undecided on whether this is a good move or not. It should help Apple to increase the number of people converting from Windows to Mac OS because they can by a computer from Apple and if for some reason they don't like Mac OS X they can use Windows. The only use I can really see for it personally is games and testing websites in IE6. Other than that I don't have any reason to use Windows.

444234 2006-04-06 03:32:00 I don't know why so many people do this, but it's "Mac", not "MAC" Yeah I most definately second you there.. everytime I see MAC I think about network cards (en.wikipedia.org).

Personally I think it's a good move, although I'm guessing it was hurried out the door a bit faster than apple wanted.. the 3rd party solutions must have put a lot of pressure on them.

I would be *really* interested to hear if anyone here tests it. Especially if the drivers work perfectly, with all the hardware accelleration etc. Macs might actually get to play games yet :D

444235 2006-04-06 05:57:00 Well, technically games not being run under Mac OS X wouldn't be "running on a Mac". They would be running on a computer produced by Apple and running Windows. ;) maccrazy (6741)
444236 2006-04-06 07:04:00 Heh, I can see the confusing helpdesk calls coming in...

So you have a mac then?

Yes, but there is Intel inside - so maybe it's a PC?

Are you running Windows then?

Yes, I can see windows when I run the Finder?

Ah, I see so you are running Mac OS ten then?

No it says X. I also see an Application named X11.
