Just who, or what would deserve such a huge sum (or part thereof) in NZ? If we give it to the poor, via The Salvation Army etc are we just perpetuating their dependancy? Prolonging the handout mentality and removing any incentive to actually work? An example would be giving money to run a foodbank, but the people who take the food use their own food money for their drug habits or drinking. So all you do is support their bad choices. What about for education, but shouldnt the govt do that, would he only be subsidising the education system? So who would use that sort of money to the REAL benefit of NZ and not just to line the pockets of others, or act as a bandaid on a society that has structural inefficiencies? |

They obviously know better than anyone else what to do with it .... and that would be to line the MPs pockets on retirement. Am surprised there is not yet a Waitangi claim for it. And why would anyone suggest giving it to the SPCA or any animal rights group? Total waste of time in my opinion! |

| 443628 | 2006-04-04 05:32:00 | There are plenty of deserving charities out there who help those with unforunate illnesses (Blind foundation, Cancer society, etc.). However, I think it would make sense for him to start up a trust to help aspiring Kiwis through tertiary education - yes I know Sam Morgan dropped out of high school, but there is a lot of potential business leaders who would seek to gain great benefit from scholarships etc. (especially with tuition fees continually rising). Even if he just simply invested the money, and used the interest from it to fund scholarships for business or IT students, it would do a lot of good for future generations. | somebody (208) | ||

What future generations need is education not training. There are too many "business" graduates already, let alone lawyers, ... | Graham L (2) | ||
