443902 2006-04-05 01:48:00 I've got an apple 30" Cinema on my Power mac and a dell 22" LCD for my PC which is running Mac OS X Anyway. maverickoc (7240)
443903 2006-04-05 01:53:00 most games at 1600*1200
Why?
Someone else I was chatting with used to, he had to trun things down on his settings so his frame rate wasn't rubbish.
I suggested my 1024x768 and now he uses that.

443904 2006-04-05 03:13:00 My resolution is 1280 x 1024 BUT I don't have my windows maximised so I am probably viewing the pages at something less or around 1024 x 768. The grey link bar was on two lines until I widened the window a little more to get it on one line. FoxyMX (5)

1024x768 is the best looking resolution on a 17" CRT. 1280x1024 is nice on 19" and bigger monitors, but I didn't like it when I tried it on my 17" CRT. It probably wouldn't have been as bad if my monitor could handle it at a higher refresh rate than 60hz :yuck:

443906 2006-04-05 05:33:00 I use 1680 x 1050 on a 20-inch LCD. maccrazy (6741)
443907 2006-04-05 05:37:00 1600x1200 for each 19" monitor (so combined of 3200x1200 I think).

Great for coding :)

443908 2006-04-05 05:51:00 800 by 600 is completely unusable these days.
Take the dialog boxes in OS X as an example - in many cases the OK button is off the bottom of the screen.

People who get 17 '' LCDs and the resolution is set at the native 1280 by 1024 constantly complain "the text is too small". My response is "do you know you get free eye testing paid by the employer here" :p

Having said that you should probably still aim at 800 by 600 for the web. I know one crazy mate who loves that resolution on a 19'' CRT and he isn't blind..

443909 2006-04-05 05:52:00 Well I changed back to 1024x768 before my other half complained! Was just a wee bit small on my 17" CRT. And I had a refresh rate of 82hz (better than your 60hz Greven!!) Tukapa (62)
443910 2006-04-05 06:06:00 Whoops careless of me I voted 600 X 480 when I actually use 800 X 60
But then I can never understand why people get a good computer monitor etc and have almost unreadable tiny text on it. Not only am I careless I also change demo computers in shops when I try them out, definately a prison term is on its way!
Clients I have changed to this setting are always amazed how much better it is. Needless to say I NEVER play games (apart from Freecell of course) Games should not be in PCWorld but need their own grotty magazine.
